Look Back Rule
:
Ask for clarification at the plate meeting of each umpire's interpretation of the rule. I do not want teams taking advantage of the rule. The rule is in place because there are no leadoffs in softball so the pitcher needs to know when she can stop focusing on the base runners. Runners can take advantage of the pitcher/defense not paying attention and extend a play but there is a point when the runner needs to decide what they are going to do. We all know there is a gray area of when the runner is extending the play or trying to illegally trick the pitcher and take an extra base.
